There are many of us who spend an entire lifetime trying to figure out what they really want to do with their lives. It's hard to realise and understand what we expect our life to be. There are two categories of people - the first category - they become either an engineer or a doctor, a bureaucrat or a lawyer, a teacher or a scientist, a politician or an actor, a sportsperson or an army personnel. People often tend to identify these professions as their ultimate goals in life. People who don't have an inclination towards any particular profession may tend to say that money/fame/success/helping the society is what defines their sole purpose of living. Most of us fall into either of these two categories. Some say they value love and affection the most in their lives. Some live for themselves, some for their family, some for their friends.
Most people study, get a job, marry, raise a family, enjoy/live life the way they want to. A few lucky ones are born with a silver spoon and don't have to toil hard in their lives while there are a few who may have to overcome several obstacles to achieve what they want to. Whatever may be the case, achieving one's goals or fulfilling one's dreams isn't an impossible task provided one is dedicated and passionate about it. However the effort we put in, the hard work we do, the time we spend struggling to fulfill our dreams - why do we do all this at all? At the end of the day all what you do is just survive another day. Some survive eating a simple meal and enjoying a carefree sleep beneath the tress while some can afford the luxuries of dining at an expensive restaurant, having your favourite brand of wine and resting on a comfortable mattress in a villa. Some or the other day everyone has to die. Whether you die in your hut or in your villa doesn't make a difference. What would make a difference is what you have given to the world. A billionaire may have spent a really lavish life. Tomorrow when he dies, his near and dear ones may mourn, people may offer condolences, they may decorate his corpse with expensive flowers but a few decades after he dies no one would even be aware that a person like him ever existed on this earth.
We are mortal beings. We can't live forever. Our goals should therefore be to create something that lives forever even after we pass away. We should try to create things or develop ideas that make a difference in the lives of the billions who inhabit this planet. Earning a million dollars or winning a Nobel/ oscar shouldn't be the aim, rather the aim should be to leave behind your footprints for others to follow even though you are not physically present. Love, family, everything is of utmost importance in every person's life but if that becomes the sole purpose of our living then we are in no way different from other living creatures who lack the intellect that humans possess.
Money, Fame, Success, Love, Family, Friends, etc should be our goals no doubt , however we all should strive hard to fulfill that one big dream - to contribute something to the world, to make a difference to the world, to do something for which you will be remembered by generations to come, to leave behind your footprints on the sands of time.
It's important to make sure that when we look back at our life, there are memories to cherish, accomplishments to be proud of and at least one good thing we did which added a difference to the world we live in.
